about the artwork

10 Life Sentences, A Series of Short Actions at Irregular Intervals, durational performance, LAF Sentences are intended to be a series of words so arranged to convey complete sense. Axioms, maxims, truisms, proverbs are often sentences which convey simultaneously such sense, and non-sense. The disjunction, but also the potential collusion between the collection of the ten sentences I use, are emphasised as each sentence is played with in various ways. The collection of these actions may become like a sentence of speech (or not). The rubbing together of meanings, which are textual, physical, symbolic, spoken, performed, object based…. intend to try to escape the ‘prison house of language’ (Vincent Leitch) 10 Life Sentences enunciate and explore the territory of motherhood, and whether it is possible to escape confinement. Some of Sentences could be:
Actions speak louder than words, What the mother sings to the cradle goes all the way down to the coffin. A stitch in time saves nine, Necessity is the mother of invention. It’s no use crying over spilt milk. Time is a great teacher but unfortunately it kills all its pupils,Defenceless as babies are, they have their mothers at their command
