about the artist
Teresa stevens is a visual and movement artist. She is a member of and works part-time as a dance/visual art facilitator for shallal dance theatre company based at the acorn theatre in penzance.
Teresa makes films, draws, performs and makes things in response to movement, her work is poetic and of a oneiric quality touching on themes of time, memories, outward pilgrimages and inward journeys, and death and dying. She is interested in the slippage from a concrete object to something that lacks substance, movement and the idea of crossing thresholds.
Teresa seeks in her work to build bridges between the conscious and the unconscious, the visible and the invisible often using the metaphor of clothing as a layer between herself and the world. sometimes her films show one frame at a time, as a way of hurling us into the present moment. In each of its individual moments time is divided into the past and present. Past is formed not after the present but simultaneously with it, every moment of our lives a sign of death.
